May 12, 2017: Determination

Many people struggle with determination due to laziness and other problems, but mostly laziness, which I suffer from as well. I mean, wouldn’t it be a better life for us if we have everything we need for the rest of our lives and all we have to do is lie down and do nothing?

Except that we humans don’t. We have to work to earn money to survive in the “real world” as humans put it.

Now my problem is that I’m lazy and that I don’t like to do stuff like writing.

Ironically, I’m a writer, and writers are supposed to be happy writing stories and stuff.

Ironically, writers aren’t ALWAYS happy with writing and typing out stories or blogs, because of Writer’s Block and the reasoning that they need a break once in a while.

So with 2 ironies coupled with sleeping late and having nothing to do besides blogging, which was the main thing I didn’t want to do, I just became lazy overall and didn’t finish any blogs at all.

I took my break, which lasted more a week, but I’m not about to lose my streak any longer.

You see, I’m determined. I’m a man, and part of a man’s code is to finish what he started. And since I do blogs for everyone to read, and everyone reads them at least once a day, I probably let them down by not posting stuff regularly.

So what exactly is determination?

To put it bluntly, determination is just doing something, just doing something just because, just doing something just because you have to do it, and just doing something just because you have to do it because this what determination is.

Didn’t get it? It means that you have to be firm with yourself. You have to mentally and physically tell yourself that you have to do this thing, just because.

And if you decide to do it, you know you’re determined, and that you made yourself actually listen to what’s good for you instead of being lazy and just lying around.

What is your core gift, hobby, or something you’re good at?

This “something” is supposed to be the thing you are good at most, so make the most of it because you’ll be able to do it easily.

For example, if I wanted to make a business but it keeps on failing, but I really wanted be a businessman, I would do anything in my power to make that business happen, no questions asked.

If I wanted to be a dancer, I’d practice until my legs would fall off.

If I wanted to be a secretary, I’d be typing a hundred thousand letters per day.

If I wanted to be a lawyer, I’d be memorizing the Constitutions and laws that govern our country each day, figuring how to make it better.

It doesn’t even have to apply to these large jobs and careers. For example, you jog 2 miles a day, for a week, no questions asked.

Or you save a hundred pesos a day.

Or you do a good deed to a random person every morning.

Finding something to be grateful for.

Spending time with your family.

Praying at the Chapel.

Determination is something that only a select amount of people take wisely. Determination is a mindset that allows you to do anything relentlessly, no matter what happens. In fact, one of the reasons why a lot of people are successful is because they are determined.

They are determined to do thing that they have to do. Examples?

Steve Jobs.

Albert Einstein.

Walt Disney.

George Lucas.

Bill Gates.

Warren Buffet.

And the list goes on and on and on.

Name me a successful person who wasn’t determined in their craft?

Be determined at what you do. It’s okay to sometimes take a break and relax, but once you find your core gift and you know that’s what defines you, be determined and do everything it takes to do it.

Because that’s what will make you a shining star.
